Paul Marko's Mindful Endeavors

In Organizations

After more than 25 years of working with businesses from public sector entities to large international corporations, I have found that sustained leadership effectiveness can only come when individuals display a mindfulness of action and an awareness of the affect that those actions have on others. Although many of today's models for leadership glorify the "toughness" of leaders in being able to make decisions that have an negative impact on people while enhancing the bottom line, my model highlights the broadminded executive who sees beyond the limited financial perspective to embrace his role in and duty to his organization (people), his community (people), his country (people) and mankind in general. This leader does not see options in terms of black and white, but rather uses his or her expanded worldview to find successful solutions that do not involve "either, or" but satisfies the needs of all. Self-awareness on the part of the leader is the key to power in the fostering of follower-ship. The coaching and teaching that I do, at all levels of an organization, stresses the necessity to take a higher perspective and combine wisdom with intelligence to create unlimited possibilities and positive results.

Coaching Interventions
Individual coaching can be the root of self-understanding and engender a release from limiting behaviors. Most managers do not realize that in spite of all of their hard work and thorough analysis, most of their decisions and actions are driven by automatic reactions and feelings. Discovering how one behaves in the ever-present "automatic pilot" mode is a major, first step in self development. These observations are the key to freedom from habitual behaviors and allow the installation of truly mindful actions designed by free choice. It is only by learning to be an observer of yourself can you really know this person that you call "ME." Although all of the coaching work is customized to the needs of the client, here is a typical coaching structure.

Teaching Programs
In courses that are bound to raise Emotional Intelligence and awareness, participants are exposed to models that demonstrate how the underlying structures drive human interactions, feeling and group behavior. Automatic systems run us and our businesses on a daily basis and left unexamined we become the victims of our own actions.

Off-Site Facilitation
Off-site intensive interventions are designed to drive change and allow groups to install more effective behaviors to reach their goals. Designed to allow self-observation, fellowship and behavioral modification, these workshops allow individuals to grow together and unleash the hidden potential within the group. These intensives also are a great way for new leaders to bond with and understand their group.

Ongoing Developmental Mechanisms
Organizations that have high-potential candidates engaged in an ongoing developmental effort will find that a weekly mindful intervention can actually get a bigger payback in the birth of new and more effective behaviors than either training or mentoring. This intervention aims at the development of wisdom.
